El Diablo II...A tale of Beauty & The Beast (Full Gallery)

We live in a media world where everyone is in a rush to get those page views and clicks while forgetting that the actual content matters. I was fortunate enough to go to the Reese Brothers shop in Temple, GA with my friend and fellow photographer Courtney Paulshock of CPaulshock Photography and capture the beauty of the car everyone is talking about.

As you will see, this might be one of the more beautiful race cars that you will see at the track in 2020. In talking with David we found out that the wrap color on the car is actually the first and only car in the world to have this color. It is called Super Chrome Red Satin and made by a company called Hexis. And this color looks great in or out of the shop. There was actually another idea that David had for the color scheme, and that was to wrap the entire car in chrome. Don’t worry, I thanked him numerous times for not doing that!

It was actually refreshing to talk with David about the car, his goals, the shop, and the business of drag racing. He is a straight forward, no BS type of chassis builder that is going to tell you like it is. We talked about his goals of holding numerous records as a driver and car builder before the end of the 2020 season. His sole reason for going to the track is to win. I have seen motivated drivers in this industry, but talking to David about his drive is something that I rarely see or hear. Let’s face it, have the time it seems like you go to an event and more people care about hanging out and having a good time then they do putting in the time and effort to win a race.

I know that some of you have heard how quickly David built this car, and when we asked him about it he told us how he did it. Everyday David would go out to the shop and work on customer builds all day, and once the “workday” was done, he would go to work on El Diablo II. In a matter of fewer than two months (including a couple of weeks at the wiring guy), the car was completed. That in itself should tell you the type of person David is and the ability that he possesses to get things done in a timely manner. There is a process for him though, and the key to getting a build done on that timetable is to actually have the parts you are going to need and not be sitting around waiting on things.

There were a few other cars in the shop while we were there as well, including Larry' Roach’s beautiful ride that David is in the process of finishing up. Along with some N/T rides that of course David is known for as well. You would think that based on the quality of what David builds he would have this huge and fancy shop. The fact is, he is out in the middle of nowhere and the shop isn’t a huge building. After talking to David, I think that the shop and the environment that he works in fits his personality of being modest and humble as well. A down to earth chassis builder that wants to build successful and safe cars for the sport he loves.

David seems to be staying busy in the shop all day every day right now. He has also been working with Rick Thornton at FFI in Texas, as he and Rick and running the same engine program. A small block screw blown combo for Radial vs. The World. With all that work comes much-deserved attention for David and the shop as well. Apparently, it also attracts the attention of rule makers, who have already tacked another 100lbs onto David’s set up only days before our visit.

Look for us to be there and cover the on-track debut of El Diablo as well. Next week, David and the team will head to Bradenton, Florida and debut the car at the U.S. Street Nationals. If El Diablo was any indication of success and a precursor to what kind of success El Diablo II will have, the competition had better watch out for this small block screw blown beast.

I personally want to thank David Reese, Reese Brothers Race Cars , E3xtreme Branding Partners Menscer Motorsports & Garrett Advancing Motion , Along with Courtney Paulshock / Cpaulshock Photography for her amazing contributions to this shoot!!
